In mid 2026, I was lucky enough to take part in an internship at ABC in the News Graphics department, at the ABC Ultimo building. There, i worked on previous briefs the News Graphics team were given in the past, making short animations and background footage to accompany a news presenter, reporter, or supplied statistics. I focused on keeping closely to their recently redesigned brand, which was a new experience adapting to a preset set of design guidelines. A key part of their style is compositing digital 3D elements into real footage, mostly using After Effect’s 3D tools.
It was an interesting experience learning all the small things the News Graphics team needed to consider when creating these animations such as different screen aspect ratios and the time needed to read presented information.
Overall, it was a great experience and I had great fun participating!
